Prius Smart key programming
On this 2012 Prius, the owner of the car stopped in at the Flying J truck stop while passing through Waco. Somewhere in that store the Prox key fell off the key chain and all that was left was the key blade to open the door.
The Toyota dealership was closed and after calling around they found out that Waco Lock and Key was the only company in Waco that stocked the Prius key, had the diagnostic programmer to program the push to start ignition to the new keys and was willing to come out at night. After we arrived the customer was back on the road within 45 minutes with 2 new Toyota keys.
Do you know where your spare key is?
What is a Toyota smart key or Proximity key?
The smart key allows the driver to keep the key fob pocketed when unlocking, locking and starting the vehicle. The key is identified via one of several antennas in the car’s bodywork and a radio pulse generator in the key housing. Depending on the system, the vehicle is automatically unlocked when a button or sensor on the door handle or trunk release is pressed. Vehicles with a smart key system fitted have a mechanical backup, usually in the form of a spare key blade supplied with the vehicle. Some manufacturers hide the backup lock behind a cover for styling.
